Chatham House

Fresh thinking on the future of human rights

Chatham House undertook a flagship project on the future of human rights, with the aim of producing ideas and proposals for the future amid a sense that the human rights sector was increasingly struggling to make an impact.

David produced two reports as well as convening several expert roundtables as part of the research and outreach for this work. He also presented the research and recommendations at several Chatham House events.

The reports made the case for a much more holistic approach to human rights and were widely welcomed in the sector and beyond, bringing together practitioner experience and think-tank objectivity and offering specific ideas. David presented them at the EU Council’s human rights working group in Brussels, to the FCDO in the UK, and at public seminars in Copenhagen and Taipei.

The first report was introduced as induction material at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and essential reading for the Oxford Master’s degree in Diplomatic Studies.
